U.S. inflation reached its highest rate in nearly four decades last fall, reaching 6.8% in November from 2020. Consumers are seeing prices rise sharply for various goods and services because of continued supply and labor shortages and strong demand.
Everything Feels More Expensive Because It Is.
You’re not imagining it—many items are more expensive than they used to be—some by a little, others by a lot. The United States isn’t in runaway inflation territory right now, but we’re definitely seeing some unusually pricey consumer goods. Gasoline prices in October went up nearly 50% from the same month a year ago, putting them at levels last seen in 2014. Grocery prices climbed 5.4%, with pork prices up 14.1% from a year ago, the biggest increase since 1990. Prices for new vehicles jumped 9.8% in October, the largest rise since 1975, while prices for furniture and bedding leaped by the most since 1951. Prices for tires and sports equipment have risen the most since the early 1980s.
This inordinate price increase impacts almost everything and water well service, pumps, and drilling are no exception. C&J’s costs have gone up on almost everything. For example, PVC casing has gone up almost 400% and fiberglass pressure tanks are often back ordered—if you can get them at all. We are committed to maintaining our quality and speedy service, which has caused our prices to rise concordantly. Despite these rising costs, C&J is still committed to providing an excellent value for great products—it’s all a matter of perspective.
Cynic or Sentimentalist—Does a Good Value Equal High Cost?
Today, many of us confuse the meaning of the word “value” with the word “price.” However, these terms mean very different things. Oscar Wilde—the 19th-century Irish poet and playwright—once defined a cynic as, “A man who knows the price of everything, and the value of nothing.” This line from Lady Windermere’s Fan reminds us that there is an often overlooked distinction between the cost of something and the value of something. For example, lug nuts are very inexpensive to buy, but they have immense value when driving down the highway and want your wheel to stay secure. Price is what you pay—value is what you get.
What value do you get with C&J Well Co?
At C&J Well Co, although we know our prices are generally somewhere in the industry average—not the highest, nor the cheapest—we believe the value we provide is second-to-none. This value is most clearly seen in our equipment and experience.
The Value of Our Equipment
This unparalleled value is first seen in our well drilling operation. We have three state-of-the-art Versa-Drill drill rigs and one bucket well rig. Complicated or unreliable machines slow down work, and the hassle of service departments impairs profitability and raises customer costs. Also, we use non-corroding, stainless-steel well screens, and rust-proof fittings which last much longer than galvanized steel. Between the 1930s and the 1980s, most contractors and plumbers built homes with galvanized steel pipes. Later, professionals discovered that galvanized steel rusted and corroded relatively easily. This corrosion resulted in blockages quite easily. They also release lead into the water, leading to water discoloration and potential illness. Old houses usually have at least some galvanized steel pipes left, because replacing an entire piping system is expensive.
Our Grundfos submersible pumps offer high efficiency, high resistance to sand and other abrasives, and easy maintenance. Grundfos pumps are made of stainless steel, increasing the life and performance of the pump. Our Flexlite fiberglass composite pressure tanks are the very best ones that money can buy in their class. Flexlite pressure tanks have become the tank of choice in residential and commercial applications for their unmatched performance over steel. They contain no steel, so they can’t rust. We are committed to providing the best possible equipment for your private water well.
The Value of Our Experience
With 25 years of well drilling, service, and maintenance experience, C&J Well Co. has become the Indianapolis area’s premier drilling, water treatment, and full-service well contractor. Our licensed technicians are more than equipped to provide expert solutions to even the most complex well issues. Our decades of serving Hoosiers are what allow us to respond quickly to water emergencies, often on the same day. Also, we back our parts and labor with a limited 10-year warranty (ask about our Lifetime Warranty pump package). When you partner with C&J, you can trust you’re getting a team that cares enough to serve you with our very best. That’s great, but what about the price?
In Lady Windermere’s Fan, Oscar Wilde articulated the need for a balance between value and cost, saying, “The sentimentalist is a man who sees an absurd value in everything and doesn’t know the market price of any single thing.” Our premier value notwithstanding, we too understand that the price of something is very important. We aren’t naive or complacent about the current economic crisis in which Hoosiers find themselves. Our goal is to continue to offer premier value and competitive prices. This year, don’t be a cynic or a sentimentalist—get a great value at a great price with C&J. Contact us for more details or to schedule and read a blog relating to this here.
